While help is on the way

1. Keep yourself safe

   An animal in pain may bite, even a friendly one. Approach slowly and do not grab it.

2. Share the exact location

   Call a helpline or a 24x7 vet. Send a live location pin on WhatsApp if they ask.

3. Move it only if it is in danger

   If it is in traffic, slide a towel, blanket or cardboard under it and support the whole body. Put small animals in a box with air holes.

4. No human medicines

   Do not give painkillers or other human medicines. Some, like paracetamol and ibuprofen, are poisonous to cats and dogs. Do not force food or water.

5. If it is bleeding

   Press a clean cloth gently on the wound and hold it there.

6. Stay with it

   Keep it calm, shaded and quiet, and keep crowds back until help arrives.
